Update - 4/17 - After multiple blood transfusions, steroids, immunosuppressants, fluids, and other supportive care, Panda continued to lyse her blood cells and decline. Unfortunately, we thought her body was too weak and her spirit was too low to continue fighting any longer. She ended her battle this morning and though we are devastated, she is no longer suffering.
Thank you all for supporting us through this.
Hi everyone,
I am writing this with a really heavy heart and hate to admit that we may need a little help.
Anyone who knows me (or even knows of me), knows Panda - the sweet, lovable, happy-go-lucky Pomeranian who has stolen the hearts of so many.
Panda had a rough day. She woke up not feeling herself and was a little pale. We ended up at the vet this afternoon as a "just in case" measure and she was diagnosed with immune mediated hemolytic anemia (IMHA), a severe auto immune disease where the immune system attacks its own red blood cells and breaks them down. It is a very aggressive and lifelong disease that requires bloodwork, x-rays, and ultrasounds to diagnose and hospitalization, frequent monitoring of blood counts, possible blood transfusions, steroids, fluids, and immunosuppressants to maintain. The vet bills will easily climb into the thousands over this next week and it will be emotionally grueling. (Thank God it isn't finals week or anything…..)
Any amount that you can give will be greatly appreciated. Again, I absolutely hate to ask, but I simply cannot give up on this sweet little baby girl.
Thank you <3,
Tia, Panda, and Bitty
