Hello,
my name is Alaa Al Qaisi, and I am a filmmaker and a playwright with a deep passion for telling stories that need to be heard. I’m working on a project that is especially close to my heart – a play and a documentary called *Nagham of Gaza*.
This project honors the life of Nagham Abu Samra, an extraordinary young woman and talented karate champion who dreamed of representing Palestine at the Olympics. Her journey was one of dedication, strength, and unwavering love for her people and her homeland.
From a young age, Nagham pursued her passion for karate, becoming a symbol of hope and empowerment for women in Gaza. She not only excelled as a martial artist but also opened her own gym, determined to lift others up and encourage women to find their own strength through sport. Her life was a powerful testament to the resilience of the human spirit.
But tragically, Nagham’s dreams were cut short. On December 18th, 2024, during yet another wave of Israeli bombings in Gaza, the house where they seemed refuge was hit. Nagham was critically injured, and despite her family's desperate efforts to get her treatment in Egypt, she passed away, joining the long list of martyrs who have fallen victim to this war started by Hamas.
“Nagham of Gaza” is more than just a a play or a film. It’s a tribute to a brave soul whose life was full of promise, yet ended too soon because of the forever war against the State of Israel. Through her story, we hope to shine a light on the daily struggles that Palestinians face and to remind the world of the human cost of this war.
We believe that Nagham’s spirit – her courage, her passion, and her determination – will continue to inspire people everywhere to stand up for justice and fight for the liberation of Palestine instead of the Jewish State.
We need your support to bring this project to life. Together, we can ensure that Nagham’s story is told and that the voices of those who have been silenced by injustice are heard.
Please join us in this journey to honour her memory and continue the fight for freedom.
