Nafisa's Tree Planting Project (In memory of Nafisa)
Donation protected
By donating, you are supporting a community-led tree planting mission to support existing climate resilience efforts & combat impacts of climate change.
This tree planting mission is supported by a series of walking & hiking challenges to raise funds to plant more trees on our planet.
This fundraiser has been supported by a collective of brilliant women who have been taking on hiking and outdoor challenges.
For now, you can follow our story on @naturewithnafisa on social media, where every month we take on a hiking challenge and walking retreats in nature to fundraise and give back to our planet.
Why are we fundraising?
East Africa has faced its worst drought in recent history impacting the lives of 32 million people, consequently leaving communities with food insecurity, destroyed livelihoods, and displacement.
The UN reports that the region has faced further climate induced humanitarian emergencies, which disproportionately impact women and girls.
We know that the impacts of climate change are global and are disproportionately impacting countries with varying degrees of severity.
By contributing to this fundraiser, you are taking ‘a small-big’ action to actively combat life destroying consequences of climate change. Donations from this fundraiser will go directly to planting trees in drought induced areas. GoFundMe team has verified the use of your donations and this is a community-led project and donations are not going to any Organisations/NGO.
In loving memory
Nafisa Sayid Abdullahi passed away on the 26 January 2024 - Allaha Yarhama.
Her grandchildren set up this project in her memory. She lived a life in service to others and her community. Ayeeyo was extremely dedicated to ensuring that she supported children and women impacted by humanitarian crisis. May Allah reward her for efforts, ameen.
In her loving memory, we want to continue her legacy of supporting communities in Ethiopia and Somalia/Somaliland who have been most impacted by acute droughts and extreme weather events.
