We’re moving onto phase 2!
By donating, you are supporting a community-led tree planting mission to support existing climate resilience efforts & combat impacts of climate change.
This fundraiser has been supported by a collective of brilliant women who have been taking on hiking and outdoor challenges. As well as, kind generous donors from the first phase of our crowdfunding initiative in 2024.
Together we have planted 500+ indigenous trees across drought impacted regions in Somalia with 7 indigenous tree types. Focusing on urban regreening in public spaces such as schools, medical facilities, and busy streets - we have worked together as community to continue a beautiful legacy.
We’re now moving onto the next phase of our initiative and expanding the scope of the initiative to populate dry lands secured, you can follow our story on @naturewithnafisa and dedicated page @nafisastreeproject
Why are we fundraising?
East Africa has faced its worst drought in recent history impacting the lives of 32 million people, consequently leaving communities with food insecurity, destroyed livelihoods, and displacement.
The UN reports that the region has faced further climate induced humanitarian emergencies, which disproportionately impact women and girls.
We know that the impacts of climate change are global and are disproportionately impacting countries with varying degrees of severity.
By contributing to this fundraiser, you are taking ‘a small-big’ action to actively combat life destroying consequences of climate change. Donations from this fundraiser will go directly to planting trees in drought induced areas. GoFundMe team has verified the use of your donations and this is a community-led project and donations are not going to any Organisations/NGO.
In loving memory
Nafisa Sayid Abdullahi passed away on the 26 January 2024 - Allaha Yarhama.
Her grandchildren set up this project in her memory. She lived a life in service to others and her community. Ayeeyo was extremely dedicated to ensuring that she supported children and women impacted by humanitarian crisis. May Allah reward her for efforts, ameen.
In her loving memory, we want to continue her legacy of supporting communities in Ethiopia and Somalia/Somaliland who have been most impacted by acute droughts and extreme weather events.
