Hello Friends and Fellow Community Members.
It is with a heavy heart that I am reaching out to all of you with heartfelt sincerity and hope. Our sweet Nadia, mother of three, wife to loving Mwalu, and important member of our community as an addictions worker, has been recently diagnosed with stage four cancer. The news has come as a deep shock that has quickly turned their lives upside down.
Given the new challenges they must face, Mwalu is left on his own with the care of their three beautiful and bright children ages 6, 3, and 6 months. It is an overwhelming responsibility that has forced him to withdraw from his studies and paid work. Nadia is currently fighting fiercely and bravely at Grand River Hospital in Kitchener, often having to advocate for herself despite the tremendous pain she is experiencing. I am deeply humbled by her strength and how she is focusing on recovery despite being removed from her loved ones. She has obviously also had to withdraw from activities that provided her with earnings to support her family.
It is unknown how long she will be undergoing treatment but we know that it will be complex and lengthy. Having come to Guelph to further Mwalu's studies, they are far away from extended family and this makes things complicated and uncertain, financially, at best.
Many of us have been touched by cancer and know that there is much surrendering, and feelings of helplessness. I ask you to join me in alleviating suffering for Nadia and her family by easing the financial burdens that such a situation creates. Given the costs of childcare, travel, and fees associated with hospitalization, they are already facing financial demands that are difficult to meet when they are forced to leave paid working positions.
The funds raised will help to provide them with grocery items, diapering, formula, childcare, gas for travelling back and forth and other essentials to keep the family healthy and safe throughout this difficult journey.
If I ever imagined a scenario in which I felt this platform was warranted and much needed, this indeed would be it. I ask you, humbly, to please give anything you can to help them overcome this difficult time and return to the life they deserve.
