Nadia's Journey of Hope
Donation protected
Michael and Nadia Shaver have been a part of Greater Cumberland Baptist Church since 2011, and have faithfully served since the moment they joined. Watching their family grow and witnessing their intense love for the Lord and faith in a God Who loves, heals and provides has been a complete joy. Even in difficult trials during this time period, they never let their faith waver, and in fact, drew even closer to the Lord.
Back in May of 2018, the Lord made it abundantly clear to Michael that He was calling them to the country of Iceland, to work alongside Nate Shaver. Again, their faith never wavered as they took God at His word and began preparations.
When they finally were able to go on their Missions Trip in February of 2019, they had just found out they were expecting their fifth child ~ a wonderful surprise, not even knowing what was to come. As soon as they returned from their trip, they began full-time deputation, in their usual way - completely full of faith.
In the month of May 2019, while on the road with meetings, Nadia felt a lump in her left breast and immediately notified her midwife back home. Her midwife made an appointment on their next return trip to Kentucky, and in July she and Nadia met and discussed the lump. The doctor recommended a same-day ultrasound, but was very reassuring, in that, due to numerous factors, it was highly unlikely to be anything serious; but to rule everything out, scheduled a biopsy for August 20th.
During this entire time, we witnessed not an ounce of worry from either Nadia or Michael. Convinced that God had everything in His control and plan, their faith stayed strong. Little did they know, however, that they would receive the news everyone would dread hearing.
One day after Nadia's biopsy, on August 21st, Nadia was home alone while Michael had taken the boys out, and she received a phone call from her Doctor, confirming the worst...that she, indeed, had breast cancer. Thirty-eight weeks pregnant, and serving the Lord full-time, she and Michael became acutely aware of the necessity of complete and absolute dependence on God. As more questions were left unanswered, they were given the one known: Nadia has Invasive Ductal Carcinoma Grade 3. The most aggressive grade to have.
Michael and Nadia prayed fervently for direction, from the decision to have their precious baby girl, Elin, a week early, to the decision to move their care from Kentucky to Mayo Clinic. They firmly believe God has called them to Iceland and even with every course change, they are continuing on that path. Michael is juggling all the change in logistics, financial strains and the heavy burden for his wife. And Nadia is juggling the emotional toll of having a newborn baby, making a temporary move cross-country, and starting cancer treatments, all within weeks time.
Michael and Nadia have one burden we can absolutely bear for them. And that is their financial burden. Immediate consults, MRI, tests, and doctor visits will begin on Monday, September 23rd, with a monetary need of over $35,000 upfront. While this can seem overwhelming, because of their such apparent faith I know it is feasible for us to bear that burden for them; understanding that ultimately they are reliant on the God Who heals and provides.
We are reaching out, to friends, family, and anyone who might share and hear, hoping you might invest in this wonderful young couple who amazingly have kept their eyes on Christ. Not knowing answers, and facing seemingly impossible trials, follow their story and be blessed.
Thank you for every penny invested. We appreciate you immensely.
