Nadia...the pibble that could!!

Hi! My name is Noelle, and I want to introduce my blue nose pibble, Nadia. Nadia came to us as a medical foster in August of 2020. After a year of fostering and nurturing her through her medical issues, we were foster fails in the summer of 2021. Nadia is the definition of resilience. She is less than 3 years old and has already endured a major orthopedic surgery, pressure wounds, an infected uterus, severe food allergies, environmental allergies leading to Staph infections, and heartworm treatment. These were only the major issues she conquered, there were lots of other little problems along the way. But almost every day, Nadia woke up happy - her tail wagging like a weapon, and that tongue ready to bathe you in kisses. Unfortunately, Nadia finds herself on the cusp of another major orthopedic surgery.

Nadia was born with severe angular limb deformities in both front legs. These deformities caused Nadia to walk on her wrists, with her paws flipped under. She was surrendered to a North Carolina shelter, but a Maryland rescue heard about Nadia through rescue channels and pulled her to safety in the summer of 2020. Surgery was performed on Nadia’s left front leg in August of 2020, but the repair wasn’t 100% successful.

After the surgery, Nadia could walk on her paws, but there was significant collapsing in both wrists. We tried various custom braces, but due to the abnormal shape of her legs, pressure wounds developed and braces weren’t an option. As months passed, Nadia’s right leg became the main weight-bearing limb, which resulted in increased collapsing of her wrist and wounds developed at the bottom of her paw. After months of searching, we finally found Nadia’s angel! Dr. Dycus specializes in angular limb deformities, using 3D modeling to practice the surgery to ensure a successful outcome for Nadia!

 

While we don't want to put this baby through another surgery, we feel it is the best chance to give Nadia the long, quality life she deserves. While she won't be pain-free, her pain will be significantly reduced, and we will not have to keep her on pain medications long-term. This girl is a fighter, and we want to help her fight! Nadia has a long recovery ahead, but we are hopeful that this will be her last surgery and that she'll have many happy years to come and many lizards to chase! All donations will go directly to Nadia's surgery and rehab care. There will be physical therapy, aqua therapy, and cold laser treatment in Nadia's future.
