Nadia Esther- Post Cancer Rehab and Recovery
Donation protected
Hello Everyone! My name is Solomon and I am making this GoFundMe to support my friend Nadia Esther, a kind, generous, wonderful cancer survivor on the long road to full recovery who is looking for help to pay for long term rehabilitation. I would really appreciate if you would share or donate to this GoFundMe
Here is her story in her own words:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When I was 24 I was diagnosed with cancer of the bones (Ewing’s Sarcoma Stage 3). This diagnosis put my life on pause. I could no longer do the activities I loved doing, such as sports, dancing and mountain climbing. I couldn’t believe that this was happening to me and I was in denial for a long time. Following a biopsy in Poland, where I live, I was told that my options for treatment were very limited. The doctors told me that treatment could result in death or at the very least, amputation of my leg. I was told my best option for treating bone cancer successfully was in the US. My family is of modest financial means, but stretched themselves to the absolute limit to make sure I would be cared for.
My sister found a doctor in the United States and sent him all my medical records to find out what options I had. This doctor offered his help and found a specialist in Miami University Hospital who is considered one of the top doctors in treating Ewing Sarcomas. In 2016, I came to America and started chemotherapy as the first step in treatment. I spent 4 months in Miami University Hospital, had a total of 4 surgeries and another round of chemotherapy afterwards. The surgeries were ultimately successful, my cancer went into remission, and I was able to progress to rehabilitation in Israel after undergoing one more surgery in Germany.
After completing rehabilitation in Israel in 2017, I was able to return to Poland, and live a relatively normal life, with limited mobility, first walking on 2 crutches and after a while on 1 crutch.
In October 2021, I started struggling with severe inflammation in my right leg (the same leg I had surgery on in 2016) and lost the ability to walk. I was hospitalized in Poland 4 times and the local doctors could not figure out what was causing the inflammation and strong pain. I was initially scheduled for surgery due to a bacterial infection of the cancerous prosthesis I have instead of my femur, but after two biopsies, the doctors' diagnosis was not confirmed. I underwent a strong two-month antibiotic therapy, the effect of which was short-lived. I also tried alternative therapies: vitamin C infusions and vitamin D injections to strengthen my body. After a year, the inflammation in the body had significantly reduced, but unfortunately the pain in my leg had not disappeared, so I continued to move around on two crutches to avoid standing on my right leg. After further examination and consultation with the doctor from the US who was my attending physician in 2016, he agreed to continue my treatment.
On July 21, 2023 I underwent hip replacement surgery at HCA Florida University Hospital in Davie, Florida.
As a foreign resident, I don’t have medical insurance in America. All of my treatments have been covered by the generosity and goodwill of both family and strangers. I am humbly requesting your help for me to continue my recovery process, so that one day I could return to walking without crutches and eventually, dancing, sports and possibly mountain climbing . My long term dream after I recover is to start a family and raise my own children .
My sister (who paused her life to come with me as my caretaker) and I need help to pay for rehab. The original surgeries removed the muscles in my leg, and after years of not being able to walk properly, I require long term physical rehabilitation in order to learn how to walk properly again. We also need help with daily life expenses. We are extremely grateful for any and all help and consideration. Thank you for opening your hearts to my story and God bless.❤️
