Hi, my name is Samantha (Sam) Parent. I am a wife, mother of 3 boys, Neuro ICU Nurse, Cubscout Leader, Soccer coach/mom and I have been diagnosed with breast cancer. I have been undergoing several months of chemo. I have a couple more chemo treatments to go followed by surgery, radiation and immunoglobulin therapy through all that. Up until now I have continued working (at a less strenuous capacity) and have used PTO to make up the hours I’m not able to achieve. After 4 months of this, my PTO is completely gone. I just received my 4th treatment 4/13 and have developed port complications causing me to be hospitalized. At this point I am forced to take paid medical leave until I am cleared to return to work after surgery and radiation. I can take a few weeks of paid medical leave with 60% of my pay covered, but they will not pay me the first week of leave. My prospective return to work at this point would be the end of August at the earliest. Which will far exceed my short-term disability (paid medical leave). We will also need to bring our 3 boys to their grandparents in Vermont before my surgery in July and go back up to retrieve them (or pay for family to bring them back down to South Carolina) several weeks after surgery.
One of our children will also need surgery in June for ear tubes and adenoids removed. We have arranged for family and friends to come help us through the most crucial times to relieve some stress, but they are limited as to the time they can give. I know many of our friends and family have asked how they can help. Honestly, one of our biggest stressors right now is fighting to keep income so we can pay bills and trying to figure out how we will pay them while my paychecks diminish in the coming months.
Our important bills: mortgage, 2 car payments, utilities, daycare ($535/week, increases to $600 June-August cuz our oldest will be on Summer break so full-time instead of just after school), gas, groceries (3 growing boys who eat a lot, our monthly cost is about $400+ and one’s still in pull-ups). We also have 2 credit card bills, endless medical bills, frequent copays for specialists, cellphones and internet.
Our 2 younger boys need speech therapy twice a week at $50/session equals about $200/week.
How you can help: monetary donations, time donations, prayers/messages/emotional support, Share Our Fundraiser please!!!
We Thank You for your prayers, well wishes and support. We greatly appreciate you.❤️
