Nabess/Settee family house fire fund
Donation protected
In the early morning of December 4, 2018 a house fire devastated my brother and his family. My brother has always been my hero. That morning my brother became a hero in the eyes of so many others. The family awoke to the house already engulfed in flames. Cory and Sylvia’s access to the kids was blocked by flames. They found their way outside and my brother sprang into action. He ran and found Jeffery who had already made a small hole in his window. Cory punched the window with both his hands and it shattered. Cory was able to pull him out. Next he went to the window where his granddaughter Ritayiah had been sleeping. While he was trying to break that window, Sylvia went back into the house and was calling at Ritayiah, telling her papa Cory and uncle Jeff were going to get her, in an effort to keep her calm. Once Cory broke through the window he put half his body into the house and felt around for his granddaughter. As soon as he felt her, he was able to pull her out. He handed her to a neighbour that had ran over to help. He then jumped his fence to get to Stevie. He got to Stevie’s window and saw that the flames were already behind her. He quickly realized that the frame needed to come off to get her out. As he was working to try to break it another neighbour heard him and came to help. They were able to break the frame and Stevie jumped out. Within minutes the her room was engulfed. Cory went back inside and tried to save the family dogs but the smoke and heat were bringing him to his knees and he had to get out without his daisy-girl. Coco had made it out of the house but after a few long days and nights of Stevie and the community searching for her, sadly she was found deceased.
Cory, Sylvia and Ritayiah were flown to Winnipeg suffering from various injuries. Burns and smoke inhalation. Charlee who had been away for work, travelled to Winnipeg to be with her family. Cory, Sylvia and Ritayiah were in 3 different hospitals so Charlee had to go from hospital to hospital in order to see her loved ones. Cory has since been released from the hospital and has joined his family in a hotel. Sylvia is now out of the ICU and recovering in the hospital. Ritayiah is still sedated and intubated. She remains in the children’s hospital ICU.
The family lost two fur babies, as daisy had perished in the fire. In addition to this great loss they have lost everything they owned, including all the Christmas presents that they had put under the tree. Cory and Charlee are overwhelmed by love and support of family, friends and community. Any donations will be incredibly appreciated as they try to rebuild their lives❤️
100% of the proceeds is going to the family.
