Donación protegida
On the dates July 14th to July 19th, the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) is hosting their 109th National Convention at San Antonio, Texas. The NAACP is the nation’s oldest, largest and most widely recognized grassroots-based civil rights organization. It's more than half-million members and supporters throughout the United States and the world are the premier advocates for civil rights in their communities, campaigning for equal opportunity and conducting voter mobilization. This gofundme page is for two youth students named
Jahmaka West and Aminah Kelly. We are members of the NAACP Youth Council of the San Jose/Silicon Valley area. We’re ready to make opportunities for ourselves, meet different people, and going to the national convention for the second time. We’re trying our best to raise enough funds in order for us to attend this once in a lifetime opportunity. Please help us! Here is a description of each of the two of the us:
Jahmaka West: Hello everyone, my name is Jahmaka West, I am part time the current Secretary of the San Jose/Silicon Valley NAACP Youth Council, part time a server at a local restaurant, and full time a 19 year old student at De Anza Community College with a double major in psychology and social work. Before entering the National Association of The Advancement of Colored People I was a kid that grew up in a predominantly white community, that wanted to make a change in myself and my community. Through the past two years i have been involved with the NAACP is has done so much more for me than i ever had hoped. Being in the NAACP has truly changed me into a proud black women who is well versed in the issues not only happening in my own community, but black communities throughout the nation. This has become possible from the conventions the NAACP runs like the National Convention in San Antonio, Tx. During last year’s convention in Baltimore i learned what it takes to be a leader, networked with other youth branch officers from who gave us advice on how to run a well operating branch, and met a few friends along the way. When i came back from my trip, the information i acquired helped my council and I hold two successful events. I want to continue this success and this year’s National Convention will help me do so.
Aminah Kelly: Hello, my name is Aminah Kelly and I am 19 years old. I am the assistant secretary for the NAACP youth council of the San Jose Silicon Valley branch. I currently attend Grambling State University, I am studying in the fields of business management. Going to an HBCU has really opened my eyes up to a lot of different things surrounding the black community. I have noticed the unity and also the segregation, even in college I noticed a lot of people tend not to embrace their heritage,it was sad to me to learn that a lot of people weren’t proud of their culture, I wanted to change that. Before attending Grambling State University I attended the NAACP convention in Baltimore, Maryland. I came back from that convention with a lot of knowledge and information that I didn’t know before, I got to network with others and I even connected with someone who attends my HBCU. The information I got I also took with me back to the San Jose Silicon Valley Branch, I tried to instill in them the importance of speaking up and acceptance. Going to the San Antonio, Texas convention will be very beneficial to me as an individual and our group as a youth. We will be able to bring back loads of information and details, to San Jose/ Silicon Valley and I can also bring my information back to Louisiana with me. Thank you so much for your time, efforts and contributions.
