Please help support THS senior Madeline & her family as they care for her unexpected emergency medical needs. We are expecting a long road to recovery, especially considering her vision is severely impaired to near blindness.
Sept 7:
"We are in desperate need of prayers. Madeline has been in ICU since Thursday. Starting with needing a scoop because they think she has Crohn’s. She came to the ER for vomiting anything she ate or drank. That became so extreme that they realized she had pancreatitis. With in moments she lost her vision. Today is day 5 of no vision. On top of all of that, no one knows what’s wrong with her. Every specialist in the country is trying to figure out what is causing all of this. What ever it is, it’s extremely rare, nothing has been written on it so the treatment has been carefully given. Everything is inflamed from her brain to eyes and GI. Looks like there is damage to her eyes, no one knows why, and she won’t get her full vision back but hopeful she gets some of it back. They did a spinal tap as well and we are still waiting for results. Today we are being transferred to Childrens in Boston today. Now her heart rate is irregular. Madeline is understandable scared but is still smiling, calm and blowing every nurse and Dr away with her strength. Please send prayers for Madeline, for the Dr to understand the cause and how to treat this."
There was some progress, here is an update from today, Sept 14:
"Thank you everyone who has reached out to me. I have not gotten to them all but I will respond. A little update, she had a colonoscopy and an endoscopy yesterday, waiting on biopsy results but her colon was extremely inflamed. She had one eye apt Monday and they took photos and we have another one today. The one today will go over the photos and their other thoughts. Her brain and back are still inflamed. She can't eat, even liquids hurts her tummy. She has a feeding NG tube in and will start giving her nutrition through that today. She lost 20 pounds since this started and is 99 pounds which is scary as well. There will be a meeting either later today or tomorrow between all of the specialist to brain storm to see what she might have but like they said at UMass, it's rare. Her vision has improved slightly. She can tell when here eyes are open or closed. If there is high contrast like a dark room and a bright light, she can see a brighter light in her low peripheral view. If you’re shinning lets say a bright red light in a dark room she can see the red. But in regular light or when she is tired she doesn't see anything. Her pupils started reacting to light which is great. At first her eyes were completely dilated with no reaction to light. She still has a 2 min. short term memory, her brain is inflamed which is affecting that. That is it for now. Lots of blood tests, another MRI today on brain, the Dr.s are still not completely sure what is going on but hopefully the biopsy's will give some needed answers."
