Rachel's Hope for Holistic Healing

Hi friends,

Thank you so much for visiting my gofundme page!

Initially, on 6/21/2018, I was diagnosed with stage3 hormone driven breast cancer. I started chemotherapy, went onto a double mastectomy, then 6-7 weeks radiation. After treatment ended, I had to get a few more surgeries due to infections and trying to get everything to look “right”. Still to this day 12/2020, it’s not completed and it’s just hanging in the balance. In May of 2019, I was told I was CURED of breast cancer and we all celebrated.

In May of 2020, after some odd symptoms and a few tests, I was diagnosed with AML Leukemia. That was the 11th, and on the 12th my loving husband brought me up to Anschutz in Aurora. I remained there for 28 days, alone, and it was very very hard being away from my family for that long. I had two more chemotherapy sessions called consolidation chemotherapy. They were each four more days away from my family, in Aurora. They put in a PICC line that had to be changed multiple times because of infection. Because of those same infections, I had to get daily infusions at the local infectious disease clinic. After the first consolidation it was 14 days, and after the second consolidation it was 28. Everyday.  The AML was from the radiation & chemotherapy treatment I went through for the first breast cancer.  Usually women develop AML from breast cancer treatment 5-10-15 years later.  Then in early October 2020 I was told I was in REMISSION and we CELEBRATED.

Later that same month I started feeling what I thought was gas pains. After the pain intensified, I went to the ER and they ran some tests. They said there was a mass on my ovary, but it wasn’t cancer, but I do need to go see my obgyn about it ASAP. I went to see him, and we agreed to surgery 8 days later. It was hard for me to go in for another surgery and I was relying on God for each and every step. When I woke up he told me that “it was a mess in there” and I had ovarian cancer and we cried together. After further testing of the one nodule he removed, it was declared metastatic breast cancer that had jumped from my breast to my ovary and all over down in that area. It’s called peritoneal cancer, meaning this “cancer develops in a thin layer of tissue that lines the abdomen. It also covers the uterus, bladder, and rectum. Made of epithelial cells, this structure is called the peritoneum. It produces a fluid that helps organs move smoothly inside the abdomen.” Fortunately, it’s not IN the organs and I’m grateful. And, there is a piece of cancer on the bottom of the liver.

The oncologists recommended an at home chemotherapy pill for this round of treatment. After much prayer and discussion, my amazing husband, Mark, and I felt strongly that chemotherapy isn’t the right avenue this time. So, we have taken steps on the pathway to holistic treatment. I’ve researched over the last couple years of fighting cancer the traditional way. And, this feels like what we need to do this time. This. Last. Time.

We have asked friends and family to pray, help as they feel led, and contribute financially if they are able. This has been such a difficult time for all of our family and especially for our enduring five children. We need our community and we are so thankful for each of you! Thank you for all the things over all of the years, thank you so so much.

The cancer journeys thus far have taken us further into debt. And, the holistic path isn’t covered by insurance, and it’s incredibly expensive. Also, we have discussed going to a treatment center in Mexico, and that route would be $50,000.

So, here we are asking for financial help with a holistic healing expedition, here at home, in Colorado.
