For anyone who doesn't know our story, we are currently 24 weeks with identical twin boys. We found out we were expecting twins at 15 weeks during an emergency room visit.
We found out the next day that they had something called Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS). 90% of pregnancies affected by TTTS result in loss of both babies.
Thankfully there is a treatment, a fetal laser surgery performed by only a handful of doctors across the country.
At 17 weeks we went to Johns Hopkins and had the surgery to save the boys.
Everything looked great after surgery, both boys had good heartbeats and their amniotic fluid levels started to balance.
At 18 weeks my water broke around baby A and they gave us little chance of carrying to viability.
But here we are at 24 weeks and still pregnant with two seemingly healthy boys!!
Sadly, we aren't out of the woods yet.
Baby A's fluids are really low and still leaking. The doctors are admitting me to the hospital for the duration of the pregnancy and Alex is playing single parent with the only source of income until the boys and I come home, which will likely be 8-12 weeks.
I've been at home with the kids for 6 years and transitioning in to needing childcare is going to be difficult.
After two months of hospital stays, unpaid days, leaving work early and trips back and forth to Johns Hopkins, we are financially drained.
We have had the help of countless people but if we are going to make it through the next couple of months we are going to need to pay for full time childcare for all three kids.
Thanks so much for all of your support!!
