Artistas S.O.S Colombia Mutual Aid Fund

On April 28th millions of Colombians took to the streets to protest a tax reform, healthcare reform, the death of 74,000 due to the COVID -19 and the systemic and systematic murder of Indigenous people, Black people and social leaders.

Since the protests began, horrific videos have surfaced of police vehicles driving into peaceful protestors, police officers shooting into crowds and helicopters shooting into crowds and attacking innocent lives in residential neighborhoods. Colombian President, Iván Duque used military resources in retaliation to the protests despite receiving the dissenting opinions of mayors in three of Colombia's major cities, Cali, Medellín and Bogotá, advising him not to.

Dozens of grassroots and humanitarian rights organisations from across the globe including the United Nations and European Union have stood up in solidarity with Colombia to demand an end to the bloodshed being committed by Colombia's police, it’s military and government.

In response to these atrocities, a group of creative individuals and artists formed the collective, Artistas S.O.S. Artists. The group seeks to use art as a medium to explore creative solutions to nurture, support and defend the people of Colombia through fundraising actions, and ultimately stand up to the injustice of police and military violence.

The Artistas SOSColombia Mutual Aid Fund will be allocated to various rapid-response groups on the ground in Colombia standing up against police and military violence. We will provide funds for both established NGOS and newly formed ad-hoc community groups engaged in community processes of social transformation across Colombia. Funds allocation will prioritize the most impacted regions and communities. This includes bringing food and first aid to protesters, Indigenous and Black communities, and LGBTQI communities.

Accountability

Disbursement details of organizations and NGOs will be shared through our social media channels.
For the safety of ad-hoc community groups bringing food and first aid to protesters, or protesters and families impacted by police and military violence, their names will be kept confidential.

We are choosing to affirm life, and creative energy. We will not let our friends and family die at the hands of police.
