Beyond Brothels-Help Eradicate Human Trafficking
Donation protected
As many of you know, over the past 3 years I have been back and forth to Cambodia, where I developed a profound passion and dedication to eradicating human trafficking and empowering young girls and women. Well, no surprises here... I am heading back for a spontaneous trip in 2 weeks!!
I work directly in conjunction with a company called AFESIP who help rescue and rehabilitate young girls and women from being trafficked. Girls as young as 2 are bought to AFESIP after being sold, raped, beaten, starved, denied hygiene/healthy living conditions, refused fresh water and admitted electric shocks at any sign of ‘disobedience.’ Victims are bound in silence. This is the G-rated version of describing what these girls have lived. It is a completely different ball game once you visit the brothels, hospitals, lawyers and sit in front of them whilst they describe their living nightmares.
My experiences have pushed me to my emotional limits, but has wholeheartedly been the biggest ignition for change in my life. These women have changed me and the strength of the victims is unbelievable. As I will be returning soon, I have been in contact with the women to gauge what the Center needs and at the moment it is School Uniforms. Education in Cambodia is free, however children are denied entry if they do not wear the correct uniform - something most families simply cannot afford. Education is key for these young girls to allow them to build a bigger and brighter future than the one they are currently living. I work with 63 girls at the center, at least 3/4 of whom are in need of uniforms.
I will also be a part of an outreach program, whereby I will visit local Brothels in Phnom Penh and provide food and sanitary essentials for all the women who are bound to this lifestyle. The poverty in the brothels is unimaginable and they are unable to even afford pads, soap, toothpaste and of course food. All items in which I hope to purchase as much of as I can!!
Every cent counts here and will help make a huge difference to young girls and women who are suffering immense pain every day. I will be posting photos of the girls receiving all the goods I purchase so donors can visually see the direct impact you are having and who you are helping!
Much Love!
