Mohmmed is 30 and Before the genocide he had a home, law office and life in Gaza he was incredibly proud of. Along with so much else it was destroyed. He and his family have survived the genocide, in large part thanks to the kindness of strangers who helped secure their safety. Now, they are about to embark on a long process of rebuilding.
Mohmmed and his family, displaced and living in a tent for over a year, were only recently able to return to their home which has been seriously damaged to the extent that it is uninhabitable before major restoration and repairs. This means that the conditions of displacement that they have endured for over a year continue as they are forced to live in a tent next to their home. With damaged roads and limited supplies of fuel, aid and medicine we need your help to assist their daily basic, medical and restorative needs.
Most urgently Mohmmed has family members in need of life saving medication.
My name is Paige. Myself and our friend Nimrah are working to support Mohmmed and his family who have experienced the unimaginable displacement, near death experiences, death and injury of their relatives and loved ones, hunger, and illness.
Why is medicine so expensive?
Medicine is expensive and scarce in Gaza due to Israel's control over border crossings. The depletion of essential medicines and medical supplies has reached a critical level, with about 60% of essential medicines and 83% of medical supplies depleted. Hospitals and health centres are facing acute shortages, which could lead to a complete halt in critical medical services, including emergency care, surgeries, and dialysis. Additionally, Isr--l has cut off electricity, blocked fuel shipments, and halted the supply of water, communication, food, and medical aid, exacerbating the crisis.
Remaining in Gaza:
‘Optimistic’ assessments of the damage in Gaza predict that it would take anywhere between 3 and 5 years to remove the debris and rubble left behind by Isr--l’s annihilation campaign. If left abandoned and uninhabited, Palestinians risk permanent displacement due to the unpredictable nature of their oppressors, as well as the volatile state of affairs and the volatility of the ceasefire agreement. In addition, the people of Gaza who have been sheltering are densely squeezed into the former so-called “safe zone”.
