On Monday night we were cleaning up the kitchen after dinner, joking around, when every pet owners worst nightmare was all of a sudden our reality.
Jack started to gag like he was going to throw up. We rushed him outside but he wasn’t able to actually throw up. He began pacing around the yard in the rain trying to, but nothing happened. This lasted about 20 minutes while we frantically google searched and called the local vet offices. It was after hours and after speaking to Guardians Veterinary office that provides 24/7 we quickly rushed Jack to the emergency pet clinic in Brewster. Jack presented with symptoms of GDV bloat which is deadly if not treated as soon as possible. The 30 minute drive to the pet clinic was the longest and scariest drive of my life.
The vet tech confirmed Jack had bloat, his stomach had flipped and if not treated right away we would not be bringing our baby home. She advised even with surgery it was only a 50% survival rate. I didn’t have to think to twice to ask her where can I sign and handed over all of my credit cards.
Well our baby made in through and was able to come home Wednesday night. He is so happy to be home and back with his little bro and sis. He is on the mend and going to be really restricted for at least 2 weeks and require some follow up appointments.
So I’ll start by saying we take full responsibility for the vet costs to save our boy and I would make the same decision 100 times over. But to be completely honest we’re not anticipating being hit with a medical bill at this time and definitely not to the extent it was. In full transparency the vet bill was just shy of $10K and with our other pup Sam’s emergency visit the week prior, we are up to our eyelids in bills.
I am starting this fundraising effort in hopes that people would be willing to help contribute. Asking for help is not something we ttake lightly, but I know we are on a long road of vet visits and I would not want anyone to have to make the decision between a vet bill and saving their pups life. The surgery may have cost $10,000, I have only set this goal to $5,000 but we would be grateful for anything.
We understand if you are not able or willing to donate and would still like to thank you for your kind words and positive thoughts for our sweet boy.
Love,
Jeanne, Tony, Aiden, Terry, Jack, Sam, Kona
