I hope you are finding yourself well and in good health. We are writing to you on behalf of Team Vanessa to request your support and sponsorship. Team Vanessa is a group of young individuals who had formed a bond with Vanessa Guillen. We came together with a common goal of fighting for justice, not only for Vanessa but for those who have been sexually harassed/assaulted in the armed forces. We have already increased national awareness on this issue through fundraisers, protests, rosaries and vigils. We have grown into a team with the intention of becoming a voice for the voiceless and fighting for the powerless, and we will not stop until we make it happen. We cannot do this on our own so we are asking for your support.
Vanessa was the definition of letting her actions speak louder than words. She was always the first on the track, pushing herself until she seemed to reach her limit, yet never gave up. She was a young woman who allowed input from everyone before herself. A peaceful soul who gave her all while focusing on the task at hand. As complicated as things got, she brought kindness with whomever crossed her path.
We as Team Vanessa are coordinating a plan to head to Washington DC to support the introduction of the “I am Vanessa Guillen” bill. This bill would allow service members to file sexual harassment and assault claims to a third party agency instead of their chain of command. We hope to not only introduce this bill but to have it established and enforced into legislature. This bill is a crucial step towards achieving justice, as it will not only create new policy for reporting sexual harassment it also push congress to launch a congressional investigation on behalf of Vanessa Guillen.
We are currently looking for sponsors and asking for donations to reach our goal. This would cover traveling expenses such as transportation from Houston to Washington, hotel rooms and food expenses.
