Hello, my name is Tanisha Champion-Benjamin and I am single mother to three amazing kids, I work as a schools community manager at a elementary school in the bay area, and I absolutely 100% love what I do and my students. Recently I have been diagnosed with congestive heart failure, pulmonary hypertension and end renal kidney disease. I essentially was diagnosed with all of this with in a year and I have been battling with it all for the past few years.

While none of these diseases are in my family medical history, resulted from previous medical procedures that were performed in the past. By the time we realized anything was wrong, unfortunately the damage had already been done and is irreversible.

At the time I was diagnosed, I was working full time, starting my Masters degree program, and honestly i was enjoying where my life was at. However, that is a time I will probably never get back to. Due to my medical issues and COVID-19 I am facing possibly losing my main source of employment and insurance. At the time I was due to return to work after being on medical leave the world was hit with COVID-19. With how my health now and having already catching COVID-19 once in the hospital, it’s very risky and unsafe for me to return on site to work.

Over the last few years since being diagnosed I have been hospitalized dozens of times for multiple different issues. Some stays are only for a couple days, sometimes weeks, and I’ve been hospitalized for a few months a couple times.

While I have pushed and fought through those times, especially with the care and work of the medical staff at my hospital, I seem to also face more set backs as I try to recover.

Currently I am being hospitalized (as of 10/4/2021) and due to difficulty breathing the doctors have done a tracheostomy so I can have a reliable airway which may be permanent. I still face many surgical procedures ahead of me and medical bills to pay. With all that I am facing right now I need to be sure I can get through treatment and recovery.
