There are moments in life when two broken souls find each other at exactly the right time.

For my dad and Lola, that moment changed everything.

A few years ago, Lola lost her owner. Confused, frightened, and alone, she found herself needing a second chance.

At the very same time, my dad’s world was falling apart.

After the breakdown of his marriage, he found himself living alone. The house was quiet. The days felt longer. The loneliness was overwhelming.

Then Lola walked into his life.

What was meant to be a rescue became so much more.

Lola didn’t just find a home—she became my dad’s reason to get up in the morning.

She became his shadow, his companion, and his best friend.

She goes everywhere with him. To work. On walks. On car journeys. Wherever my dad is, Lola is never far behind. The bond they share is something words struggle to describe. They’re a team. They’ve been through life’s hardest moments together.

My dad is diabetic, and Lola has become far more than a companion. She gives him purpose, routine, and a reason to keep moving forward every single day. Living alone while managing a lifelong health condition can be incredibly difficult, but Lola is always there. On days when his diabetes leaves him exhausted or struggling, she stays by his side. She has an incredible way of sensing when something isn't right and refuses to leave him alone until she's satisfied he's okay. The comfort, support, and unconditional love she gives him have become an important part of his daily life. She isn't just his pet—she is his family, his support system, and one of the reasons he keeps going.

For many people, she might be “just a dog.”

For my dad, she is family.

She is the wagging tail that greets him at the door when nobody else is there.

She is the comfort beside him on the hardest days.

She is the reason his house feels like a home.

Now, heartbreakingly, Lola needs help.

She has been diagnosed with a painful condition called a luxating patella, where her kneecap repeatedly slips out of place. Every day is becoming harder. She struggles to walk, climb stairs, and enjoy the simple things she once loved.

The surgery she desperately needs costs £2,000.

For many people this might seem manageable, but for my dad, who lives alone and works hard simply to get by, it’s a mountain he cannot climb on his own.

Without surgery, Lola’s pain will only worsen.

And the reality we’re facing is one that breaks my heart to even write: if the money cannot be raised, euthanasia may become the only option.

The thought of my dad losing Lola is unbearable.

After everything they’ve been through together, after she helped him survive some of the darkest chapters of his life, we cannot bear the thought of losing her because of money.

This little rescue dog has given years of unconditional love, loyalty, and companionship to a man who desperately needed it.
