On June 7, my momma Stephanie was transported to the ER by EMS because her vitals were critically low and she could hardly move. Upon arrival, they began administering blood and IV fluids. Next thing we knew, she was going up to the CCU, and we still weren't sure what was wrong. The doctor came in later that evening to inform us that her liver had masses on it and didn't seem to be functioning right, she had fluid in her abdomen, a suspected infection, and her kidneys were all messed up, plus an electrolyte imbalance. That's when the doctor told us to prepare for the worst but hope for the best. That night, we got a call from the hospital saying that they needed to intubate her. She was intubated that night and the next day airlifted to the ICU in Wilmington.
Stephanie was intubated for 8 days; during that time, the doctors were able to figure out the many problems that were causing this, including an acute kidney injury, cirrhosis, and an infection in the stomach. She started making slow improvements. She was removed from the ventilator on June 15 and is slowly waking up and starting to follow commands. She has a very long recovery ahead with speech therapy, physical therapy, etc.
Stephanie is a daughter, sister, aunt, and mother. She is a loving, kind, and caring person. She has a heart full of compassion, always putting others before herself, whether it’s through her work as a nurse or simply by being there for those she loves. She finds peace in the sound of rain and joy in the simple pleasures of life, like watching Game Show Network or spending time at the beach. She is an incredible mother, and her strength is unmatched; she’s a true fighter who never gives up, no matter what life throws her way.
I've created this GoFundMe to help ease the financial burden as we face these medical bills. Unfortunately, Stephanie was to start her new job 2 days after this incident, so she currently has no insurance coverage for these events that happened in the blink of an eye.
I hope that you read her story and pray for a full recovery. Please consider donating or sharing my momma's story to support her recovery and our family during this time. Every share and donation will truly make a difference. Anything helps.
We are very grateful and appreciative to you for taking the time to read this and giving Stephanie your support. All funds will go to medical bills.
