We are the Dumpert family and we are expecting our newest addition of twin girls any time now. As our friends and family know one of our girls, Vivian, will be born with a severe heart defect known as Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. Hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) is a birth defect that affects normal blood flow through the heart. As the baby develops during pregnancy, the left side of the heart does not form correctly. Hypoplastic left heart syndrome is one type of congenital heart defect. Congenital means present at birth.
We have transferred our care to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. (CHOP) Our Drs there believe the best plan of action would be to deliver the twins there and than for Vivian to have her first open heart surgury within her first week. (She will need another two more open heart surguries to reconstruct her heart to function with only one side.) The survival rate of the Norwood can be up to 90% which is alot better than what Morristown Drs told us.
On Thursday I was in the hospital for suspected preterm labor which is common for twin moms as most twins come early. I recieved two steroid shots to help the girls lungs develop should they continue to make their exit, and am on medication to help stop contractions as well as on bed rest. All that being said our Drs are concerned with me being so far from CHOP and suggested that we relocated within two weeks to somewhere at max. 30 min from CHOP. Chris will need to take leave from work to be in the area with me and the boys and will be out of work untill Vivian and Eveyln are released. This puts a huge strain on us and at this time we would like to reach out to our community for assistance in this hard time.
I will keep posting updates and would like to say Thank you in advance for any and all help that is to come our way whether is be financial or just continuing support and love everything helps.
