Gemma

Hi, my name is Carrie. Myself and my kids are fundraising for our pony Gemma who had a freak accident last week where a branch had punctured her eye.

Gemma came to us after I rescued her sister Mira 2 years ago and we needed a companion for her. Gemma isn’t insured due to her age and without trying to sound like a pitty party, I am a single very independent parent to 2 kids and 1 grown up kid. I won’t lie, my initial thought was that Gemma would have to be put to sleep but we just can’t. She’s our little fluff ball and Mira needs her.

I didn’t even think on setting up a go fund me page and I feel kind of cheeky but it’s not money for me, it’s for an animal. Thanks Susie for sending a video of another pony who lost his eye and had a go fund me page.

Gemma is currently in Ardene vets in Kingswells after 5-6 days of us trying to administer eye drops to her damaged eye which was one of the most stressful things I’ve ever had to do. It was an impossible task. However, further tests in Ardene have shown that the retina had detached, there was an abscess, there was uvitus and she was completely blind in that eye so the decision was made to remove the eye on Thursday. She is doing so well and you can tell she’s in far less pain!

We cant wait until she’s home again!
