Selah's Surgery
Donation protected
Selah is a 10 yr old girl who has a contagious smile, shows kindness daily and has a passion for life in itself. Sadley Selah was born with a birth defect that affects the nerves and muscles as they are not formed correctly within the bladder and bowel. This has lead to incontinence. She has been on several meds to help with her condition. In 2018 she started having more complex health issues and was diagnosed with VUR ( Kidney Reflux) Selah has had countless hospital stays due to UTI and Kidney infections. Sepsis has been a problem and has been quite scary for everyone.
Her daily life at home revolves around medication, dietary changes, activity restrictions, accident management, testing for possible new infections, temperature checks, hospital visits and more. She is in and out of school more then any child should ever need to be. Even having to cancel her 10th Birthday party due to being hospitalized unexpectedly with another Kidney infection. Selah's health condition is constantly affecting her mental health, as well as other systems, and ofcourse her overall quality of life. Her kidneys are being damaged and scarred by the infections. This surgery is needed to prevent further damage.
Selah's team of doctors along with her mom and dad have decided that it is time to move forward with a couple surgical options. It will be a two fold surgery at Minneapolis Children's Hospital on March 15th with a one night stay provided pain management is under control and then a stay at a VRBO for a wk to be near the hospital.
Selah will be having corrective surgery for the Kidney Reflux and then will be having a pacemaker called InterStim Therapy placed as a treatment for the overactive bladder and urinary retention. The pacemaker and Kidney Reflux surgery will involve daily management but will allow her to be off several of the medications she is currently taking and to give Selah the best opportunity to be as Selah says, " Just a normal kid"
The cost of the surgery is high, even with insurance. Many have asked how they can help. Pray! Prayers for peace moving foward with the surgery. Prayers for strength and healing. Financial support by donating. The cost of the surgery after insurance for them is close to $20,000. There are outside costs, like gas for travel, a stay near the hospital etc. There is also a Amazon wish list set up. Selah will need a number of supportive care items and things just to help her feel comfortable during recovery.
Thank you all for being there with us as we navigate our way through this journey with Selah and her family. It means the world to them.
