RIP Honey, Orphan Foal’s Emergency Vet Bills
Donation protected
Around 12pm today, Honey started showing signs of colic, and an emergency vet team came out. Honey is a new mother, having just foaled less than a month ago. With baby foal in sight, the vet team did what they could for honey but it became immediately apparent that she needed hospitalization and medical attention asap.
Amanda and Honey are now admitted to the Littleton Equine Medical Center intensive care unit, hours away from their home. Honey is dehydrated and has a couple of possibilities including a fatty tumor or even torsion. As the night goes on, Amanda will hopefully find out more in terms of what Honey needs. But Amanda could also get a call that honey has died. So she doesn't even know if she will be leaving the hospital with her horse.
Amanda has enough to worry about during this stressful time, let alone 6k+ in vet bills. The care Honey is getting from this evening could range from 3k-6k and if Honey does need surgery it has been estimated from 12k-18k. Every little bit helps in these situations. If you can help share and/or donate, that would be such an amazing blessing for them.
Let's rally around this new mommy and show them some love. Her new foal, doesn't not want to loose her mom at less than a month old.
Update: The vet has called Amanda this morning. The vet let Amanda know that without the surgery Honey will pass away. They have given her a quote in the upwards of $20,000. Please share this page far and wide.
Update: Honey’s situation increased drastically and it is with a heavy heart that we let everyone know that Honey has passed away. She was surrounded with love and in the arms of Amanda, Marina and Greg. Amanda stayed with her the entire time, never leaving her side.
Now, we must focus on Honey’s baby, Pheonix. She is still in the hospital recovering. She needs to learn to eat on her own, be accepted be a nurse mare once one is found and has to stay at the vet until completely stable. She is less than a month old.
Vet bills are rising with each passing day. Please pray for Amanda and her family, for Phoenix to be strong enough to hold on and fight and for a nurse mare that will accept her.

UPDATE from Amanda: Today we are going to Littleton to take home Phoenix.
She had her feeding tube removed at 6am this morning and she will have a kidney test, as her levels a little off. They will also try to pan feed her again.
We have had no success finding a mare in milk and to bring one into it at the hospital would be 5k-10k+. We are still opening looking for a milking mare, however, we have made the decision to try to pan/bottle feed her and also use a milking goat to help substitute as well. We picked for a goat named Sasha last night for $300.
Phoenix will need bi-weekly vet visits for some time, to make sure she is getting all she needs and continues to stay healthy.
