On February 21st Jason Ebert was out skiing with a friend in Big Sky when he started to have extreme chest pains. He was then taken to Bozeman Deaconess Hospital by ambulance where he underwent extensive testing searching for answers. After CAT scan was performed the doctors were able to find a significant tear in his aortic valve. He was then stabilized, rushed by ambulance to the Bozeman airport, and loaded on a life jet to be flown to Billings Clinic where a cardiologist was awaiting his arrival to perform emergency open heart surgery. While the doctors performed surgery they discovered many other extensive damage and tears to veins and arteries. Surgery would last 10 hours Saturday night into Sunday morning while which Jason would receive five blood transfusions. During surgery Jason lost blood flow to both his spine and his brain; the effects are still yet to be determined.
We are now two days postoperatively Jason is showing remarkable strides in his recovery. He is able to move all extremities and responsive to family. He is still not able to speak because of his ventilator. His eye sight remains blurry at this time. His vitals are stable but his kidneys are not functioning to full capacity. There is now discussion of possible dialysis. Once Jason is stable enough to endure another surgery he will go under to repair his carotid artery. It is unknown the length of his hospital stay, as he is still in the ICU. Furthermore, the length of recovery is unknown at this time.
Jason is a husband and father of three beautiful little girls Lilly, four years old and twins Katelynn and Allison, two years old. His wife, Mandy, quit her full time job to raise their girls two years ago. Jason works for a specialized wheelchair manufacturer out of Belgrade. He is a designer/mechanical engineer of chairs to help young children with debilitating diseases. Jason enjoys the outdoors, especially skiing and mountain biking. For the past winter he has taught his eldest daughter, Lilly, to ski and has taught all three to ride their bikes. He loves taking the girls out fishing and camping whenever possible.
Everyone’s thoughts and prayers are needed and appreciated.
We will also be setting up a benefit account with High Peaks Federal Credit Union in Whitehall for people who would rather donate by check.
