Rebecca's Bat Mitzvah Project
Tax deductible
My name is Rebecca Sobol. When I was in 5th grade, I was diagnosed with celiac disease, which is an autoimmune disorder that makes me permanently intolerant to gluten. This means that I can’t eat any foods containing wheat, rye, or barley. As challenging as living with celiac disease is, I am very lucky that my parents are able to buy gluten free food for me. Gluten-free products are much more expensive than wheat-based products. When people cannot afford gluten free food, it can be challenging to stick to a gluten free diet.
For my Bat Mitzvah project, I am both collecting gluten free food items to donate to a Massachusetts food pantry and raising money to benefit the National Celiac Association, an organization that helps people with celiac disease and related gluten disorders. Specifically, I am supporting NCA’s Feeding Gluten-Free program, which assists food banks/pantries with accommodating people who need to eat gluten free. Feeding Gluten-Free has supplied about $950,000 worth of gluten-free food to pantries and food banks around the nation.

You can support my Bat Mitzvah project by either making a monetary donation to the Feeding Gluten-Free program or by bringing non-perishable gluten free food items to Temple Isaiah on the day of my bat mitzvah (or both!). I would appreciate a contribution of any amount!

Thank you so much for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me!
