Helping Josiah Heal

Dear Friends and Family,

We want to humbly share this message with you on behalf of our son/brother Josiah, who has asked us to help put his story to words. It takes a great deal of courage to publicly ask for support from those around you, and even more so to reveal your deepest hidden struggles. We believe this is a situation that calls for both, and therefore are sharing this with as much sensitivity as possible.

Over the last decade, Josiah has struggled deeply with addiction. As is the case with many young children now, he was first accidentally exposed to pornography before he was even 10 years old.  What followed began a journey down a very dark and enslaving road.
His initial introduction to pornography slowly evolved into a sexual addiction that now a decade later has left a trail of consequences and resulted in clouded judgment, inappropriate behavior, and an alarming crossing of boundaries. Carrying the weight of this hidden sin became a burden in Josiah’s life, as he describes. He became withdrawn, had strained relationships, lost friends and trust, and was left struggling with depression - feeling lonely and trapped. This also led to him walking away from church community, and finding comfort in substances.

From the outside it might have appeared that he was experiencing normal teenage woes. But over the last year especially, his hidden addiction escalated to outward actions that have had visible and heavy consequences. And since addiction of this nature is often rooted in deeper issues, it became clear to the family and to Josiah that he is in need of an immediate intervention beyond what we as a family can provide for him.

We began extensive research to find the best possible clinical and Biblically-based rehabilitation program for Josiah that would be able to treat all of the things he is facing, further prevent self-destructive behavior, and most importantly help realign his focus towards a relationship with Jesus Christ.

And after several weeks of planning and preparation, Josiah was officially admitted to Capstone Treatment Center in Judsonia, Arkansas on January 7th.

Capstone Treatment Center is a 90-day, Christ-centered residential program for young men ages 14-24. It's one of the highest-rated residential, behavioral care facilities in the US, where they focus on "healing the past, embracing the present, and redeeming the future." They do this with the skills of highly trained therapists and Christian staff who facilitate adventure therapy, addiction and cognitive behavior therapy, family therapy, and even canine therapy. Upon his arrival, Josiah was given a labrador puppy that he will care for and bond with over the course of the next three months. At the end of the program, the puppy will leave with Josiah and become his dog for life - a sobriety partner and constant companion to aid in his recovery! Capstone has an incredible 95% completion rate with great testimonials, having many program values that exceeded our expectations.

The most important step for Josiah was recognizing that he had reached a critical level in his addiction and was incapable of fixing his issues alone, or even with family help. He ultimately agreed to go to Capstone and embrace everything they have to offer, in hopes of finding healing, restoration, and freedom from his addictions.

As you can imagine, this has been a deeply emotional and trying time for our family, as we reel from facing the painful truth of Josiah’s personal struggles, navigating the weight of his consequences, and rallying to get him the best possible help as quickly as possible. But we are hopeful for his future and pray that this will result in a fresh start for him going forward.

As difficult and challenging as this situation is, it was important to Josiah - despite shame and embarrassment - to share his story in hopes that you will come alongside him in his journey towards healing.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

+  First, and most importantly of all, we ask you to PRAY.
For the next few months please join us in praying for Josiah as he undergoes extensive therapy at Capstone. Pray for his heart to be open and receptive. That his walk with Christ will be renewed and strengthened and that he will be free of his addictions, with hope and promise for his future. Please pray for Jeff and Moe and the rest of the Deane family - for healing and renewed relationships, trust rebuilt, and wisdom as we come alongside Josiah during treatment and after.

+  Secondly, you can join us in supporting/donating to the financial costs of his treatment.
Capstone’s Inpatient Program costs $69,500 plus an additional $2,000 admission fee as well as miscellaneous medical costs and other fees. The financial costs are considerable, to say the least. But we know that with God, ALL things are possible, so in faith, we moved forward with admission.

In our process of prayerfully seeking financial assistance, we were led to a wonderful foundation that partners with Capstone called Ashes To Glory, and we applied to them for support. They were able to offer a grant of $35,000 towards Josiah’s treatment costs. Amazing!! An additional $17,000 was also generously covered by another party, leaving about $20,000 remaining. The entire cost of treatment is due by the end of the 90-day program, in April 2020. Josiah used all of his savings to pay for his admission fee himself, also.

We are sharing this with you to ask for prayers and support to help us reach the final goal for cost of treatment. It is clear that God has already heard our prayers, and we are trusting Him to provide the rest.

If you feel so led, you can PRAY, DONATE, or SHARE this with others to help Josiah on his journey to healing.
Please also feel free to leave encouragement or notes for Josiah in the comments that we can pass along to him.

Thank you for letting us share Josiah’s story, and our heart for his healing, with you. We appreciate the support and crave your prayers. We will post updates when we can!

Much love in Christ,
The Deane Family ♥️
