Lansing School District Educator Looks for Life-saving Financial Assistance for his Ailing Mother Seeking Medical Treatment
Ariel Rodriguez Pena, admired and respected educator and principal of Gardner International School in Lansing, Michigan is seeking assistance for his mother to receive life-saving medical care. His mother, Miriam Virgen Pena Osorio, sadly has a brain tumor.
Rodriguez Pena states, “I am so grateful that she has been granted humanitarian parole from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services to seek treatment in the United States. As a citizen of the United States, I know about the quality healthcare available to all those in need. My mother has expressed that the opportunities in the United States give her hope that she can overcome this medical condition and return to living a full life with her family and friends.”
Rodriguez Pena has fond memories of his mother growing up, “I like to think about the smiles I used to see and the laughing I used to hear. This is the mom I want to remember. Unfortunately, these memories are quickly being replaced due to the debilitating health issues. When I think of my mom right now, I visualize how she has lost control over her own life: walking, writing, speaking, laughing and playing with the small children who are part of her daily life.”
Mrs. Pena Osorio is currently scheduled for medical treatment at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan in the next few weeks. Rodriguez Pena says, “My mom does not qualify for any health coverage due to the nature of the humanitarian parole, not even through private health insurance providers. In order to access medical treatment, there is a need for $100,000 to cover the cost of life saving medical treatment in the United States.”
