I live in rural Texas, and therefore, like others living in rural areas, I'm the target for people who dump their unwanted cats or dogs. Seeing animals suffer in so many different ways is a difficult thing to see. I've seen some animals so emaciated from being "lost" or dumped, they couldn't eat food at first. I've seen stray animals be killed on the roads, because they were trying to eat some piece of the previous animal that was killed. I've seen kittens walk into traffic out in the middle of nowhere on some of the country roads of Texas. I've seen the results of these cats and dogs being attacked by predators. When a cat or dog comes by my place because they smell water or something they think could be food, I found myself unwilling to turn them away. But the ever-increasing expenses of food and vet bills are very difficult on my limited budget.I'm currently caring for (as of Dec, 2021) 13 animals (down from 18 because of some passing on) after many months of failed attempts to find whatever previous owner might have existed. I expect more will find their way here, although, I know other rural residents have this happen, too.
Finally, I will not foster any indifference and cruelty to these animals that others sometimes suggest or practice. These no-longer wanted pets have done nothing but try to return affection/love to human beings. And as long as I can, I will not ignore their needs. My hope is that one day someone will become their family. Until then, I am their family and this is my GoFundMe effort to help with food and increasing vet bills.
