I was diagnosed with osteosarcoma on December 18th. For those of you who are unfamiliar with what that means, it's a rare type of bone cancer typically found in young adults. The mass is below my 10th rib on my right side, and will require surgery and chemotherapy.
All of my scans and lab work have came back good, and the cancer appears to be isolated with no major signs of metastasis. In all likelihood, if treatment goes well, I should make a full recovery.
I'm making this page to help with costs associated with the treatments, travel, medications, and necessary medical supplies. Normally, I would be hesitant to post any sort of thing asking for help, but given that I work in a hospital helping patients with the costs of medical treatment, I know first hand how expensive it can be. For anyone who makes a gift, I'll send you a hand written thank you note as an appreciation for your generosity. As I find out important dates, I'll be sure to keep everyone informed. I love you all, am I am already truly overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support I have been shown.
However scary this time has been, I can also say it has been truly transformative. At the conclusion of my treatment, I intend to devote my life to my first love - medicine. I intend to finish my prerequisites for medical school, and pursue a career in medical oncology so that I may devote my life to killing cancer, as well as volunteering my time in outreach programs to support others who are dealing with this disease. Thank all of you for your consideration, and God bless.
