Help Ken with Cancer Treatments in China

Hey friends, family, good people of Bubba’s…I’m writing a short note to let you know for the last few months I’ve been facing a little battle against Stage 4 Oropharyngeal Cancer (OPC).  It has been somewhat of an uphill battle since the country basically went on lock down from the end of January, which is when we first had the tumor checked, and getting tests and appointments were all challenging.

We progressed through the roadblocks, however, and completed the diagnosis and discovery phase and have recently entered into the phase of “total destruction.”  Meaning, aggressive treatment through radiation therapy and chemotherapy.

It’s at this point where I’m seeking some support.  Usually it was me on the fund-raising side for one cause or another, now it’s me on that receiving end and I’m asking for your help.

While I do maintain health insurance, it won’t cover this particular issue and as such we’ve been paying out of pocket for the multitude of tests and early prescriptions to fight the disease.  This has included PET scans (we flew to DaQing for this as all the PETs in Shanghai had been shut down), MRIs, CT scans, blood tests, endoscopes, urinalysis, biopsies, radiotherapy targeting, and sonograms.  Early on I was also taking an experimental chemotherapy pill to help slow the spread of cancer cells until the country could open up a little more following the virus lock down.

Our resources, however, are running thin and a little fund raising is in order for this final phase of treatment.

What I’m seeking…15,000 USD (105,000 RMB) to help cover:

·      30 Radiotherapy Treatments (3,000 rmb each = 90,000)

·      6 Target Drug Chemotherapy Treatments = Estimated to be over 50,000 RMB (Dosage various)

As I am not going widespread and very public with this effort, I am hoping to get to or near the target with as few people as possible.  Think of your contribution as a good double weekend bender at Bubba’s.  

All of this crops up on the eve of me getting my hands on a new location for Bubba’s 2.0, which will be located in Jing An.  Hopefully, by late-May, I’ll be nearing the end of treatments and ready to rock and roll renovation of the new site.

This cancer is very curable so I’m optimistic this course of treatment will do the trick.
