Gavin was recently diagnosed with ADEM (Accute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis)
It is a rare disease of the central nervous system causing inflammation and lesions on the brain. ADEM is an autoimmune disorder in which the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks its own brain tissue usually triggered by a response to an infection.
Gavin is the 11 year old son of Randy and Rachel and brother to Madison and Eden. He was a perfectly healthy child who suddenly began having seizures on February 18th and his condition rapidly deteriorated until he eventually was completely unresponsive. He was placed on IVIG and high dose steroid treatment. The doctors are expecting Gavin to make a full recovery, however, there is just no way to tell how long he will be in the hospital or how long it will take for his brain to heal.
Due to the uncertainty of this illness his parents have not left his side with increased expenses and are unable to work. Any help is greatly appreciated!
