Help Rajae Williams Stay at Howard University

Story

Hello, my name is Rajae Williams, and I’m a rising junior studying Mechanical Engineering at Howard University. I’m reaching out to ask for your support during a critical time in my academic journey. Due to recent changes in Howard’s financial aid policy, I’ve been left scrambling—alongside many other students—to pay off a balance that was unexpectedly due in full by July 31st. I am a first-generation college student and the proud son of two immigrants. Education has always been a top priority for me and my family, but affording it has never been easy. I started my college journey at Farmingdale State College in New York, a local state school in my community. While I made many unforgettable memories there, I always felt like something was missing. I wanted to be surrounded by people who looked like me, who shared my ambitions, and who understood what it meant to be driven by purpose and legacy. That desire led me to transfer to Howard University—a place that immediately felt like home. Here, I found a community of like-minded individuals and a renewed sense of purpose. One of the most meaningful parts of my experience at Howard has been joining the Showtime Marching Band, where I proudly perform as a trumpeter. Being in the band has not only sharpened my discipline and commitment, but it has also helped me find lifelong friends and a deeper connection to the Howard legacy. But now, I’m at risk of losing all of that. Due to Howard’s sudden change in financial policy, I’ve been told that my entire outstanding balance must be paid by July 31st in order for me to continue my education this Fall semester. As someone who has always worked hard to stay on top of responsibilities and costs, this abrupt deadline has placed an enormous strain on me and my family. We simply do not have the means to come up with the full amount in such a short amount of time. I am doing everything I can—working, applying for scholarships, and seeking help—but I’ve reached a point where I need to lean on my community. I’m humbly asking for your help so that I can stay at Howard, continue marching with the Showtime Band, and pursue my dream of becoming a mechanical engineer. Any amount you’re willing to contribute will help me cover the balance and keep my educational journey alive. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this GoFundMe with others would mean just as much. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading my story and considering a donation. Your support helps more than you know. With gratitude, Rajae Williams Howard University | Mechanical Engineering
