Help Esteban Get Brain Surgery for Epilepsy

The thing that inspires me the most about Esteban is that no matter what he has to go through, he never gives up.
Two (2) years ago at the age of 23, Esteban had his first seizure. He was diagnosed with Temporal Lobe Epilepsy and began his medication journey. Countless seizures and eight (8) medication changes later, the doctors have decided medication will never help him. His only option is brain surgery. I’m April, Esteban was admitted to UCLA and was monitored for ten (10) days on a continuous video EEG while they made him have seizures. They now know they can help him, but the only way is to remove the front portion of the temporal lobe in his brain. He will be getting this life-changing surgery in December. Like everything in America, medical care is not cheap. The UCLA bills have totaled approximately $7,000 for one hospital visit. We have seeked government help; however, as always, Esteban has strived to push through his disability and maintain a full time job, therefore he doesn’t qualify. We asked UCLA for compassion in regards to financial assistance with the the billing; however, we were denied because we aren’t located in their “primary service area”. The only way to get help would be to quit a job which he loves. Esteban doesn’t want to do this. He is extremely passionate about the work he does with kids; redirecting them out of the juvenile justice system and into mental health and self-betterment services. Everyday he inspires them, like he inspires me. We have tried every possible avenue to get help. That is why we are now turning to our friends, family, and community. Esteban is the brightest star in my life and I don’t want to see his light dim. If you are able to spare anything at all, even $1, we would greatly appreciate the help. If you are in a situation like us and have nothing to spare, please share this so it can reach more people. Thank you for taking the time to read this. We are forever grateful.
