My name is Shovonne Woods, I am a mother of two. My son Hiram who is 2 years old was born prematurely and it has been an uphill battle. We have experienced every medical set back you can imagine on his road to recovery. Baby Hiram has spent sever stints of hospital stays. We have tried various specialists to determine treatment. Just when I think we have a solution and things will get better then something else happens. Baby Hiram is not growing as full term toddler his development is delayed. I have followed all the doctor’s orders with physical therapy and medications. Yet we still struggle to get him where he needs to be.
My job has been patient and allowed me to work from home until this last incident which left baby Hiram in the hospital fighting for his life. Baby Hiram is suffering from pneumonia and a collapsed lung. Baby Hiram had to have open heart surgery and tubes implanted to improve his breathing. Baby Hiram has had multiple blood transfusions and on a ventilator in a coma. I am happy to say that Baby Hiram has opened his eyes and he shows signs of making a recovery. However, the road is uncertain and will be hard. Because of this I have taken FMLA (family medical leave) with no pay. I am in no means a charity case or do I ask for handouts but it has been extremely difficult to maintain a household on my husband’s income alone. I have tuition and child care for my daughter and transportation to and from the hospital and doctor’s visits when he finally returns home.
Any donation is not too small I do this for my son Baby Hiram who I hope and pray makes a full recovery and comes home because without him my world is forever lost.
