This October, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I’m challenging myself to complete 100 miles throughout the month to raise funds for the Duke Cancer Institute Breast Cancer Fund.
My story is, unfortunately, one of many (too many). Even given my family history of breast cancer, early detection screenings were not going to be initiated until after I turned 40. I was diagnosed at 38. Having never had a mammogram before, it was only by chance (and the grace of God) that I felt something that didn’t seem quite right. What I had felt turned out to be a tumor – one of three tumors, actually.
From the day that I heard those life-altering words, “You have cancer” through my ongoing treatment, the doctors, nurses, and staff at Duke have been nothing short of amazing. There are so many more stories out there of lives that have been changed, touched, or lost due to this horrific disease. All funds raised will do directly to the Duke Cancer Institute Breast Cancer Fund to enhance patient care and support and improve methods for prevention, early detection and treatment outcomes.
Your donation, no matter the amount, will help make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients, survivors, and their families. Please consider supporting my 100-mile challenge and helping advance breast cancer care and awareness.
Thank you so much for your support
