Tonya's Road to Recovery

Donation protected
Hello, My name is Tonya Stevenson and I am from Panama City Beach, FL. In June of 2015, I got off work and headed to pick up my son from my parents house. I knew I was tired but in a flash, my eyes closed and I ended up wrecking into a median full of trees. Unfortunately, after I had wrecked, another car hit me head on. I broke my neck at the C 4/5 level with “an incomplete spinal cord injury”. I am a single mom to my twelve year old son, who is my first priority. He is my biggest reason for staying strong. This journey has been a lot longer than I thought it was going to be, but I have had to mentally toughen up and physically find a way to keep progressing.

During the first couple years, I was in and out of surgeries on my left elbow and trying to adjust back to home life. The athlete in me was wondering why I couldn’t do more therapy than they were offering. Considering my injury, I was already making gains that doctors say I shouldn’t have. I am getting flickers of signals because I have been diagnosed as “an incomplete injury”. That’s why I’m here needing your help!

Imagine having your physical therapist tell you, "you can potentially recover", and then you realize you cannot afford it. I still have a shot to recover but time is of the essence. If I can afford more physical therapy I can gain so much more independence. Walking is my ultimate goal but you have to crawl before you walk. If I can’t afford to crawl then I definitely can’t afford to walk. Currently there are no physical therapy facilities available in the Florida panhandle area with the type of necessary sophisticated physical therapy equipment. Therefore, it is mandatory that I travel to South Florida to receive the necessary and proper physical therapy for my recovery.

NeuroFit360, owned by Guy Romain, is located in Pembroke Pines, Florida. https://www.neurofit360.com/  His gym specializes in Neurological recovery for spinal cord injuries. They train you with one-on-one sessions and personalize your training to your specific needs. I have seen his videos and the progress he makes with other clients and I am amazed. So I decided to message him directly about my recovery. After he reviewed what I am able to do as of now, he strongly believes I will walk in two years if I have consistent therapy. The therapy price range can run from $100-145 an hour. I need every day therapy for around two years and I have a very good chance of making a recovery. I am a natural athlete that grew up loving sports, so being in the gym feels like home to me.

Every donation contributed, whether it be $5 or $20, will be appreciated more than I could express.  Without my healing, my son Mason will not know what it is like to have a mom that is not in a wheelchair. Your contribution, no matter how big or small, will aid in this goal to be an active parent who may someday do his laundry, prepare his meals, and tuck him in bed at night, versus the child daily assisting his parent. I just want to recover and simply cannot afford it. Thank you so much!
