Felipe is a dear friend and colleague of ours whose battle with Glioblastoma has taken a turn for the worse. His oncologist has recently given Felipe three months to live. In the meantime, he continues to fight the disease, but a medication (Bevacizumab) that he is now using costs $1150 per treatment every three weeks and is not covered by OHIP or his teachers health care plan. The drug manufacturer, Amgen, declined Felipe's case to have the cost reduced. We are asking friends and colleagues of Felipe to donate and help with the costs of his care and the costs for his family that will come with his death.  Felipe's positive spirit gives us all courage to make the most of our remaining time together and to help his wife, Chihiro,  and two daughters, Violetta and Itzel, through this difficult time.

Felipe is the beneficiary of this GoFundMe campaign, so he will have direct control over the funds raised.

Update: The response to our campaign has been overwhelming! Thanks to everyone who has donated. As educators, we want to help Felipe's children as much as possible with their future education. With that in mind, given their age and a quick calculation, we are setting a new goal for the fundraising campaign: $10 000 for immediate medical expenses and $5 000 per year for the next 10 years for Violetta's and Itzel's RESPs.  That will be one more worry we can take off of Felipe's and Chihiro's minds.  Thanks again to everyone, it has been just amazing to see everyone's generosity!
