Help Heal Bailey

Hi, my name is Bailey. They say I’m 8, but I feel like I’m 3. Three years ago I met my best friend, Nicholas Heid. He rescued me, but he says we rescued each other. I have been a happy gal ever since I met Nicholas, he has shown me nature and freedom, and even trusted me being off the leash without running away. But sometimes I do like to play tag just to keep him on his toes.

When Nicholas rescued me he noticed my back legs looked a little peculiar, and sometimes bent in the wrong direction. A year and a half ago, he took me to a veterinarian in Waco, Texas to be examined for this. They claimed they did x-rays, a full examination and said that I was just born this way. So we left, and continued having fun and playing each day, and even moved to Colorado. I love the snow!!!

Two weeks ago I took a bad spill on some ice at my favorite park. I couldn’t stand back up until Nicholas came and picked me up. I limped away from the park that day with some pain. As the next few days passed, he noticed I was not my happy self and had a pretty bad limp. He took me to an incredible orthopedic veterinarian in Denver, and they performed the most thorough exam from the tip of my noes to the tip of my tail. They found that the fall had torn my ACL on my back left knee. Not only did they discover the tear, but they also found a lot of scar tissue on both of my back knees. They told Nicholas that this scar tissue was from an old ACL tear, and that both of my ACLs in my back legs have been partially torn for some years now. RUFF!

So we need your help because this was unexpected for Nicholas and he told me it will cost a lot of treats! In order to heal, I need to have surgery soon or my legs could get worse. I’m only able to have surgery on one leg at a time due to my age and the extensive recovery process. With your help through this ruff time, I will be able to chase squirrels, climb mountains and play again with my best friends (and likely be faster than before). Thank you for reading my story, and I told Nicholas he will have to share pictures and videos of me with my newly healed leg.

Love, Bailey
