In Loving Memory of Yokairys G Pujols Martinez & Sofia A. Martinez — Supporting Their Children’s Future

On April 8th 2025, the roof collapse of the JetSet nightclub in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic claimed more than 200 lives. The Martinez family is now grieving the loss of two incredible women: Yokairys G. Pujols Martinez and Sofia A. Martinez. Their sudden loss has left an intangible void in our hearts.

Yokairys was a single mother of three beautiful children, all under the age of 13. She dedicated her life to their well-being and future. A deeply educated and resilient young woman who worked at the Embassy with a dream of one day becoming a diplomat. She had a heart full of love, an unshakable faith in God, and was committed to making a difference in her community and the world. Her children were her world, and she was their rock and sole provider.

Sofia, our vibrant and joyful aunt, lit up every room she entered with her laughter and her warm, ever-present smile. Though she lived in Spain, her heart never left her homeland or her family. She stayed connected with all of us and made her way back to the Dominican Republic for the first time in 8 years — a trip filled with love, reunion, and joy that ended far too soon. She leaves behind her only daughter, a 17-year-old girl now facing life without her mother.

Our hearts are broken, but we are determined to carry their legacy forward — especially by supporting the children they’ve left behind. We are raising funds to ensure the kids of Yokairys and Sofia have the support they need, including:

My transfer will go directly my aunt, Juana Martinez in Santo Domingo who lost her daughter Yokairy in the Jet Set. She will manage the funds and support my aunt Sofia's daughter as well.

La familia Martínez hoy llora la pérdida de dos mujeres increíbles: Yokairys G. Pujols Martinez y Sofía A. Martinez. Su partida repentina ha dejado un vacío intangible en nuestros corazones.

Yokairys era madre soltera de tres hermosos hijos, todos menores de 13 años. Dedicó su vida al bienestar y futuro de sus hijos. Una mujer joven, profundamente educada y resiliente, que trabajaba en la Embajada con el sueño de convertirse algún día en diplomática. Tenía un corazón lleno de amor, una fe inquebrantable en Dios y un compromiso firme con su comunidad y el mundo. Sus hijos eran su mundo; ella era su roca y su única proveedora.

Sofía, nuestra tía alegre y llena de vida, iluminaba cada lugar al que llegaba con su risa y su cálida sonrisa siempre presente. Aunque vivía en España, su corazón nunca dejó su tierra natal ni a su familia. Se mantenía conectada con todos nosotros y regresó a la República Dominicana por primera vez en 8 años — un viaje lleno de amor, reencuentros y alegría que terminó demasiado pronto. Deja atrás a su única hija, una joven de 17 años que ahora enfrenta la vida sin su madre.

Nuestros corazones están rotos, pero estamos decididos a continuar con su legado — especialmente apoyando a los hijos que ellas dejaron atrás. Estamos recaudando fondos para asegurar que los niños de Yokairys y Sofía reciban el apoyo que necesitan, incluyendo:
