Thanks to generous donations, Malawi was able to build an optometry school that is fully functional, practical and educational. Complete with a fully equipped pre-testing area, lab, exam, and waiting rooms, the Mzuzu University Optometry program offers their students classes in optometry, healthy eyes, eye care, treatments and follow up procedures. As an additional part of the program, students learn optician skills such as cutting lenses and adjusting frames.

Upon graduating, these new doctors travel to remote villages and use their new skills to exam the villagers. Patients requiring glasses or surgery are referred to the school for more testing or extended care. 

However, the cost is great and funds are limited. Many students drop out due to the lack of financial support and resources. Thus limiting the number of ODs to help fill the vast need for eye care in the underserved country of Malawi.

Each year, we would like to provide a $2000 CAD bursary to a deserving student enrolled in the Mzuzu University Optometry program. Please help us to help these students graduate.
