Help Greg Home From the Hospital

Donation protected
My name is Meredith and I have put together this Go Fund Me page on behalf of my Uncle Greg and his family.

I would like to begin by saying what an incredible man Greg Corbett truly is.  He is kind, caring and loving with a great sense of humour and anyone who knows him or anyone who has even just met him would agree.  Before Greg's illness, he was a healthy man who always lived a very active lifestyle, often participating in sports and outdoor activities.  Greg has always been a very impressive water-skier (right up until weeks before his illness at the age of 56), he participates in a ball hockey league, plays golf and has been a member of the Rotary Club and his local curling club for many years.  It has been heartbreaking for friends and family to see Greg suffer from such a devastating illness.

In August of 2020 my Uncle Greg's life changed drastically.  It was just an ordinary day and things were happening as usual, until they weren't.  Out of the blue, Greg became increasingly disoriented, he had a terrible headache, was vomiting and began to grow an extremely high fever.  His symptoms became so severe that he and my Aunt Christine decided that he required immediate medical attention.

After being admitted to the local hospital's Emergency Room and various preliminary tests, the Doctors on site were unable to detect anything seriously wrong with my Uncle Greg and sent him home.  Later that evening his condition worsened leading him back to the hospital the next morning.  The hospital was still unable to determine the cause of his illness so they decided that it would be best to send Greg to the hospital in Barrie where they have an Infectious Disease Team.

Due to Greg's condition, he was transferred to Barrie Hospital by an Ornge helicopter and barely survived the flight.  Many tests were performed on my uncle but his illness still remained a mystery. And, even though he has improved some over the past few months, according to the doctors, he still has some work to do to meet the necessary requirements to qualify for a neurological rehabilitation center.  His hospital care team believes Greg's recovery would best continue at home.  Bringing him home requires some major home renovations and healthcare assistance as he is currently wheelchair dependent.  The home healthcare that is covered by the government is very limited and  Greg currently requires a full time caregiver.

The family is extremely hopeful that bringing Greg home will help him on his journey to recovery and healing by providing him with proper love, support and sleep in the comfort of his own home.  That being said, we can not do this on our own and we are reaching out to anyone who is able to help Greg be where everybody wants to be....home :)  Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
