Hassan’s escape from war-torn Ukraine has caught the attention of media all over the world. Only, 11 years old, the boy was put on a train all by himself by his desperate mother, who couldn’t join him due to the health condition of his grandmother. Hassan traveled alone in a packed train for 600 miles to reach the border with Slovakia. He had kept his brother’s number written on his hand. After his grueling journey, he was finally reunited with his four siblings in Bratislava, Slovakia. His mother and grandmother made joined them in the Slovak capital several days later. The family of seven begins has to start from scratch for the second time in their life. Years ago, they had to flee Syria when the country’s civil war broke out and their father was killed.
David Puchovsky, a writer and communications expert of the Slovak Police Force, has initiated a fundraiser for the family via his non-profit organization called Eurolanche (a fan club of the Colorado Avalanche ice hockey team). David’s efforts have been supported by his friends all
over the world.
We would like to thank everyone who contributed and helped this family, which already had to escape two wars in the past 10 years, restart their life.
