Following a recent biopsy Betsy was diagnosed with single cell carcinoma. In the next few weeks she will begin chemotherapy treatments. In true Betsy fashion, she is ready to face this aggressive cancer head on. Insurance coverage is pending and questionable. Waiting to determine coverage is not an option. No one facing this news should have to worry about the financial aspect of this diagnosis. We are asking for your help to support Betsy as she moves forward like the champion we all know she is.

When I was asked to compose this for the post I was humbled. I was also overwhelmed. How do you convey in mere words how much another individual means to you? The bottom line is that Betsy has listened, supported and cared for so many others and now it is our turn to provide her the same.

I remember the day Betsy and I forged our friendship. I simply took a few minutes to listen and she opened her heart to me. This woman who I thought was stand-offish was so much more: formidable, hilarious, fun beyond belief, outrageously smart, generous and so incredibly supportive of all of those fortunate to be in her circle. We quickly became partners in crime.

Most of us refer to Betsy as Betz. However, to some she is Elizabeth (mostly when Rick is trying to get her to behave). To some she is Mom, a role that she embraces as she is immensely proud of her children. To some she is Nom, which is Stewart talk for “fabulous grandma”. To some she is Liz, her alter ego campground moniker. Most recently she has been known as Gigi, following the birth of her first great grandchild. She is a wife, a mom, a sister, an aunt, a cousin, a grandmother, a great-grandmother and a friend. Survivor will be her next label as we embrace her through what may be the toughest fight of her life.

Please surround her with love, hope,inspiration and humor as she faces this beast of a disease.
