My name is Megan and I’m a full time nursing student and mom to 2 beautiful children. I hadn’t been to a dentist in 5 years and finally went yesterday. I know that part is my fault and I’ll own that. I have 2 missing teeth, 4 teeth broken in half in the back, cavities in several teeth including my two front teeth due to dental appliances that have been in place for 17 years. I’m gonna lose my 2 front teeth if I don’t get the appliance removed and my cavities taken care of. I was quoted $9,115 for 3 root canals, 3 additional extractions, crowns post root canals. Many fillings, removal of appliances…. That was after insurance. None of this is cosmetic. After an outpouring of support, I’ve decided against the root canals. I need extractions and partials, bridges, or implants. This would be 6 extractions, plus all the other necessary work. I’m 30 years old and my confidence and mental health has taken a dive due to my oral health. It’s caused me pain, earaches, headaches…. And embarrassment, to my children, to those around me. My plan is to chip away at this work a little bit at a time, even one extraction and implant at a time as I’m able to save and raise the funds…. One tooth at a time. Starting with my painful problem areas and moving to my front teeth and the others. If you can’t donate, I still love you for taking time out of your precious day to be here, read this, support me, and sharing. Thank you for ALL of your advice. I’m looking for second opinions. But these additional evaluations will still cost me money, plus starting the work as soon as possible before it gets worse or causes additional health problems that could be more serious.
Any extra funds if any that I don’t use, I plan to donate to others struggling with dental expenses.
I just want to smile again. I want to be a good example to my children. I didn’t care for myself for so long. And this is the start of doing that again for me.
