Mystique vs Skeleton

Donation protected

Hi, my name is Mystique Ro, yes that is my real name, and I'd like to share my athletic dreams and aspirations with you.

Skeleton?

Skeleton is a winter sliding sport where you slide down an ice chute, head first while hitting top speeds of 80+mph.

Why would someone voluntarily do that?  Well the simple answer is, IT’S FUN! The rush of adrenaline is quite addicting.

A little about my background.

I entered this sport with 9 years of track and field experience under my belt. The pinnacle of my track career brought me to Queens University of Charlotte. During the summer of 2016, after I had exhausted my track and field eligibility, the United States Bobsled and Skeleton Federation hosted a combine in a neighboring city, so I decided to try out.

I attended the Rookie Push Championships in the fall of 2016, Driving School that winter, then competed in the 2017 US Skeleton National Championships. The following season I competed and won the 2017 US Skeleton Push Championships at the Calgary Ice House. About a month later, I competed in the team selection races, and was named to my first North American Cup Tour (NAC Circuit).  This was a hectic season with a lot of learning on the fly and being very adaptable to an ever changing environment. Quite honestly the end of that first season on tour left me quite confused.

Entering my official second season, I tried to come in with a clean slate. I embarked on my second NAC tour and trained across the continent both on and off the ice. I have set personal bests on all three tracks I have slid on and am improving my awareness and ability to drive as a young slider. I am excited for my future as a USA athlete and look forward to supporting my team as I travel and compete.

How to help

This type of lifestyle makes financial stability a true balancing act. Since our season is roughly half the year, it is imperative that when I am away from sliding I work whenever and wherever I can. I have worked at various retail establishments, babysat, dog walked, mowed lawns and so many other handyman jobs. Unfortunately, odd jobs like these don’t quite measure up to the full expenses of the season.

Which is what brings me to this platform; skeleton is a self-funded sport. This means all expenses, be it race fees, airfare, groceries, AirBNB- literally ANYTHING that costs money is the responsibility of the athlete to cover.

I would like to raise $1,000 to cover the cost of my season. The money raised would go towards:

·             Airfare (plane ticket, baggage fees & rental car)

·             Lodging (hotel or AirBNB)

·             Equipment (speed suits, brush spikes, runners, sled maintenance, etc)

·             Facility fees (race/training fees, gym passes, etc)

·             Health & Wellness (specialists, supplements, protein, etc)

What your support means?

I am extremely grateful for the donations I have received this far into my endeavors and can’t express how truly amazing it is to have people near and far support my dreams. Your support will allow me to continue to slide for Team USA as I work to compete at the highest level.

If you have any specific questions or would like to know more about me and the sport feel free to reach out! And by all means, PLEASE SHARE MY STORY with your friends, family and network!

Thanks in advance!!
