Mysore Rural High School Recognition Campaign

Hello, I'm Krishnan, and I'm seeking your generous support for a noble cause - uplifting a rural school on the outskirts of Mysore, India. With a background in computer science and eight years of work as a software engineer in the USA, I faced personal challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, leading me to return to India and reevaluate my path.
On my journey of self-discovery, I connected with dedicated individuals committed to rural education in India. This encounter made me realize the importance of quality education in rural areas. In the past year, I've actively collaborated with this school, helping shape its curriculum and uniting with like-minded individuals who share our vision to transform the lives of these young learners and their community. Your support can make a significant impact.
This remarkable school is nestled in one of India's most underprivileged regions, H. D. Kote, Mysuru district, Karnataka. It serves approximately 274 villages, primarily inhabited by economically disadvantaged Indigenous and backward communities, struggling with limited access to quality education and employment opportunities.
In 2011, Anvaya Public School emerged as a beacon of hope, driven by a vision to deliver quality education. To date, it has touched the lives of more than 207 children aged 4 to 15 years, spanning from Kindergarten to 7th grade, with a primary focus on economically and socially underprivileged children. For those with parents working as daily wage laborers, earning below minimum wage, or single/divorced, the school offers free education. Others are charged a nominal fee.
Allow me to introduce you to Prajwal's story, a current 8th-grade student who faced adversity. Prajwal's father, a struggling farmer, battled relentless crop failures, leading to financial hardships and even societal criticism. Overwhelmed by the weight of judgment and isolation, he spiraled into alcoholism and finally ended his life. Left to navigate this precarious situation alone, Prajwal's mother considered withdrawing him from school. However, the school's compassionate founder ensured that Prajwal could continue his education, even if it meant receiving it for free, honoring the relentless efforts of Prajwal's father to support his son's education when he was alive.
Another unfortunate incident involving siblings Unnati and Shivakumar took place. Their father was employed on a farm located near the Kabini River, where he used a motor to pump water for irrigation. One day, while operating the motor, the electricity suddenly went out. In response, Unnati's father entered the river to remove the motor. Tragically, as soon as he entered the water, the electricity was restored, resulting in a fatal electrocution. Left with the responsibility of supporting her two children, the bereaved mother had limited knowledge of farming and sustained herself by leasing her farm's land. However, the income generated from the land was insufficient to provide for both her children. Once again, the school intervened, offering not only emotional support but also granting a full scholarship to the elder sister and a partial scholarship to the younger brother.
Prajwal's and Unnati's stories are just couple of examples. There are seven other children studying without fees and several more paying only partial fees due to their challenging home circumstances. Despite facing resource constraints, the school remains steadfast in its commitment to providing education and safeguarding the right to education for every child and hence not derailing from their vision. The school prioritizes a deep understanding of concepts over rote memorization, encouraging collaborative learning and tailor-made activities based on age and grade level. They offer real-world exposure through field trips and interactions with professionals from various fields and employ a comprehensive evaluation method to track students' progress.
After 12 years of operation, we have successfully built and inaugurated a high school. This year marks the initiation of high school admissions.

The recently constructed high school building is a testament to our commitment. Additionally, with the generous support of well-wishers and friends, we have acquired basic infrastructure such as a computer lab and electricity. However, one crucial element still eludes us: a library. Presently, the high school comprises only five rooms, sufficient for classrooms and labs. To address this gap, we must erect a small building adjacent to our classroom to accommodate the much-needed library.
