Myra is a very active 10yr old pup. She recently tore the ACL in one of her back legs, and though she is trying her hardest not to let it slow her down she can barely use it. We went to two separate vets to get opinions and they both agreed she needs a TPLO surgery. It is unfortunately very invasive and requires the bone to be cut and a metal plate to be inserted, with a 6-8 week healing period. They quoted the surgery at $4,600, this will include anesthesia, an overnight stay, as well as after care pain meds. I don’t expect to raise anywhere near that but any donations would be so helpful. I found her at the humane society when she was only 2yrs old. She had spent most of her life in the shelter and was adopted once before when she was 6months, unfortunately these people returned her to the shelter and she spent another year alone. She was the only dog at the shelter who didn’t come to fence and try to get your attention, she would sit in the far back and timidly watch. When I saw this it broke my little heart so obviously I had to give her some pets. Upon opening her door she ran through to where people couldn’t get. I spent 30mins sitting in the kennel just trying to get her comfortable enough to let me touch her. She opened up to me a bit and made sure to let me know she loves a belly rub. I made my way to all the other dogs and when I went to pass by Myra again she saw me and got so excited. Her tail was wagging like crazy and she actually came up to the fence. It made me so happy that she was able to trust me and felt safe enough to come say hi again. This was my very first time ever visiting a shelter and I immediately fell for her, I went back the next day and adopted her. (What can I say I’m weak)

She’s been through a lot of ups and downs and was clearly abused by a man. She’s still pretty afraid of men but she has over come her fear of hats! After a few months of having her she would get sick on and off and after many vet visits we found out she actually had an anxiety disorder. As someone who also struggles with anxiety I was able to learn her symptoms and catch it before she would make herself sick. This is still something we deal with to this day. Everyday I’m thankful she was able to find someone loving and understanding to work with her through it all. She was my very first dog in adulthood and is the biggest pain in my butt. I can almost guarantee she pulled her ACL chasing a squirrel out of her yard haha. She’s been with me through everything and I hate seeing her in this pain struggling to walk.
