My Mom's Battle

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Cortney. I am reaching out to you because my mom, Lynn, needs OUR help.

On January 7th, my mom went to her primary care doctor (she had just been seen by her earlier that week as well) because she was have a difficult time breathing. They started running tests to get to the cause of her not being able to breathe that well and found that her left lung was collapsed. How did it collapse? Because there is a tumor blocking the left bronchi (where air enters the upper portion of the lobe.) They also found that she had pneumonia and she was then admitted to the hospital. Her hospital stay included various different tests which included more scans (CT and PET scans), bronchoscopies, biopsies, and ultrasounds. The first biopsy wasn't a very good sample and they misdiagnosed my mom with small cell carcinoma. Since the sample wasn't good, they re biopsied the tumor and found that it is a carcinoid tumor. Which, is the complete opposite of small cell carcinoma. Typically, carcinoid tumors are harmless and the doctors are yet to find the cause of these types of tumors. But, in my mom's case she is having a hard time breathing. The only way to fix this is to remove the tumor. In order to do that, they have to do a lobectomy. The surgeons are going to try to save as much of the bottom portion of the lung as they can, but they might have to remove her whole left lung. The surgery is scheduled for February 2.

Until then, my mom can't work because of her difficulty breathing and the doctors want her to be as healthy as possible for the surgery. After surgery, she will have to stay in the hospital for another 3-5 days and they are going to biopsy the tumor and the lymph nodes around her lung (they don’t know if it spread to the lymph nodes or not) to see if any additional treatment will be required. After she gets discharged, she still has another 8-12 weeks of recovery without being able to work.Because my mom needs the next 3-4 months off from her job, she lost her job today (1/22/2016.) So, throughout this battle my mom won't have an income. I am asking you, to help out as much as you can. My mom will need help paying for her medical expenses, paying her bills, and paying for gas to get her to and from her doctor appointments over the next couple of months. Any help would be greatly appreciated by my family and I.

My mom has always helped me, my family, and her friends anyway that she could and now, I want to have the chance to help her when she needs it the most.
